The Mood - Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto is designed by Andre Fu and stands next to the historic Nijo Castle. The site was owned by the Mitsui family since the 17th century and features the meticulously restored Kajiimiya Gate at its entrance. The lobby features ceiling installations inspired by kimono fabrics and a library with a collection of books on Japanese art, history and culture. The hotel’s most inspired feature, however, is its modern garden by academic/landscape artist Shunsaku Miyagi. Embodying the Japanese principle of Teioku Ichinyo, or the absolute harmony between building and garden, carefully placed stone lanterns and decorative rocks and entrancing water features complete a serene landscape.
The Gourmet Index - Toki is headed by Tetsuya Asano, a Parisian-trained French chef who was the first Japanese to be appointed as executive sous-chef of the Ritz Paris' main dining room. He incorporates Kyoto's pristine water into his signature French creations, combining French techniques with Kyoto sensibilities. Led by Chef Asano, Toki offers an exceptional culinary experience with inventive dishes that incorporates Kyoto’s water and seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
The Service - Imperial sort of sums up the finesse of the service team here, from housekeeping to front desk. Everyone is so eager to deliver excellence at every turn and corner, a bow here means so much more than just cultural courtesy.
Spa and Wellness - The fabulous Thermal Spring Spa is fed by natural spring water drawn from an on-site source, which is a rarity in Kyoto. The spa suites here are the resplendent hideaways that one inhabits to leave the world behind.
