The Background - Aptly nicknamed ‘Palace in the Sky’, Six Senses Thimpu is probably the most visually striking of the five Six Senses lodges planted across Bhutan’s arresting interior. Strategically perched at an elevation of 2,720m, the lodge looms over Thimphu and overlooks the monumental Buddha Dordenma across the valley. Within this 25-key lodge are 20 suites and five villas, all raised replete with fireplaces and stylishly furnished interiors. The one-bedroom villa in particular is an absolute joy to inhabit, a grand expanse of space (close to 170 sqm) bedecked with a pantry, a living and dining room, a luxurious bath and an inviting outdoor terrace raised for magical highland dawns and dusks. Thimpu is the capital of Bhutan and is thus less exotic than the faraway valleys of Gangtey and Bumthang, nonetheless Si Senses Thimpu is a self-contained retreat resplendently raised despite the brand's minimalistic design ethos , making this the perfect last-stop for an odyssey around Bhutan.
